Skin barrier compromise isn't always obvious. Sometimes it's dry, tight skin that never stays hydrated. Sometimes it's sudden sensitivity to products that never used to cause a reaction. Sometimes it's a feeling that your skin is just... fragile.

  • This serum was developed in the Dr MediSpa clinics after observing that a large proportion of patients had damaged skin barriers — often from overuse of active ingredients, mixing too many products, or harsh routines. During development, over 50 different plant exosomes were evaluated for compatibility with human skin. Water Radish exosomes share 48 DNA and mRNA transcripts with human skin barrier signalling pathways — more than any other plant exosome tested.

  • Dr Somji: "Next-generation skin barrier repair using exosome regenerative technology."

  • Formulated by Dr Munir Somji, Cosmetic Surgeon and Co-Founder of the award-winning Dr MediSpa Clinics.

Independent consumer user trial, 60 participants, 4 weeks:

  • 95% said skin felt nourished and hydrated — first use
  • 97% agree skin feels moisturised
  • 95% agree skin feels hydrated
  • 92% agree skin is healthy-looking
  • 90% agree skin feels soothed and smoothed
  • 88% agree skin looks radiant
  • 85% agree skin feels protected

Water Radish (Kimchi) Exosomes

Selected after evaluating over 50 plant exosomes. Share 48 DNA and mRNA transcripts with human skin barrier signalling pathways — more than any other plant exosome tested. Support skin repair and regeneration more effectively as a result.

Triple Ceramide Blend

All three essential ceramides (1, 3 and 6-II). Rebuilds the lipid barrier, reduces transepidermal water loss and restores hydration retention.

Olive Ceramides

Dermo-mimetic ceramide from olives. Improves skin elasticity and restores the skin's natural barrier.

Hexapeptides

Multi-tasking peptide to reverse signs of ageing, minimise fine lines, boost elasticity, firmness and radiance. Supports the skin's natural repair mechanisms.

Oat Kernel Extract

Natural lipid complex rich in skin-identical fatty acids. Leaves skin soothed and moisturised.

Pine Bark Phytosterols

Mimics lipids naturally present in the skin. Reduces visible redness and helps restore the skin barrier function.

Aqua (water), canola oil, glycerin, squalane, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil unsaponifiables, passiflora edulis seed oil, lactobacillus ferment, avena sativa (oat) kernel oil, triolein, inulin lauryl carbamate, phytosterols, sodium PCA, ceramide NP, ceramide AP, ceramide EOP, acetyl hexapeptide-8, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, pogostemon cablin leaf extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, chondrus crispus (carrageenan) extract, sorbitol, cholesterol, behenic acid, sodium lactate, sodium levulinate, phytosphingosine, saccharide isomerate, magnesium aluminum silicate, caprylyl glycol, glyceryl dioleate, ethylhexylglycerin, polyglyceryl-10 stearate, triethyl citrate, polyglyceryl-6 behenate, cetearyl alcohol, phytic acid, glyceryl stearate, glucose, potassium sorbate, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate, sodium cetearyl sulfate, octyldodecanol, xanthan gum, phenoxyethanol, 1,2-hexanediol.

What is a skin barrier and how do I know if mine is compromised?

The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the skin — a lipid matrix that retains moisture and protects against external aggressors. Signs of a compromised barrier include: persistent dryness and tightness that doesn't respond to moisturisers, sudden sensitivity to products that previously caused no reaction, redness, flaking, and a feeling of skin being 'reactive' or 'fragile'. If several of these apply, your barrier likely needs targeted repair rather than hydration alone.

Why Water Radish exosomes specifically?

During the development of this serum, the Dr MediSpa clinical team evaluated over 50 different plant exosomes for compatibility with human skin barrier cells. Water Radish exosomes were selected because they share 48 DNA and mRNA transcripts with human skin barrier signalling pathways — the highest genomic compatibility of any plant exosome tested. This allows them to communicate directly with and activate the skin's own repair mechanisms.

Is this suitable for post-procedure use after laser, microneedling or peels?

Yes — this is a core recommendation for post-procedure skin in the Dr MediSpa clinics. The combination of Water Radish Exosomes (barrier signalling), Triple Ceramides (lipid matrix reconstruction) and Oat Kernel Extract (soothing) provides the foundational support compromised post-procedure skin needs.

Can I use this alongside active ingredients like retinol or acids?

Yes. This serum is specifically designed to be used alongside — and to support the tolerability of — active ingredients. By repairing and strengthening the barrier, it allows the skin to handle actives that would otherwise cause irritation. Use it before the Night Recovery Cream in your evening routine.

How is this different from a standard barrier-repair moisturiser?

Most barrier-repair moisturisers work passively — they occlude and hydrate. The Exosome Barrier Repair Serum uses Water Radish Exosomes to actively communicate with the skin's own repair pathways at a genomic level, triggering barrier regeneration rather than just surface protection. The Hexapeptide complex also provides progressive collagen and elastin support, making it a treatment serum as well as a repair product.

Which skin types is this most suitable for?

Dry, sensitive, barrier-compromised, rosacea-prone, mature and post-procedure skin. It is suitable for all skin types experiencing barrier dysfunction, but is particularly recommended for those who have been overdoing active ingredients, have experienced a skin reaction, or are in recovery from an aesthetic treatment.

Apply directly to cleansed face, neck and décolleté once or twice daily. Follow with moisturiser. Can also be layered between your Concentrate and Signature Serum.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Selected from a panel of 50+ plant exosomes after full genomic mapping — Water Radish exosomes share 48 DNA and mRNA transcripts with human skin barrier cells, giving them an unmatched ability to communicate with and activate the skin's own repair signalling pathways.

The three ceramide species that together constitute the primary lipid matrix of the stratum corneum — delivering a structurally complete barrier reconstruction that single-ceramide formulas simply cannot achieve.

A multi-mechanism repair peptide that simultaneously inhibits acetylcholine-driven micro-contractions, stimulates type I and III collagen synthesis, and activates fibroblast proliferation — providing both immediate barrier support and progressive structural skin renewal.
